EWEC High-level Steering Group Meeting in the Margins of the UN General Assembly
On 19 September, the High-Level Steering Group for Every Woman Every Child met in the margins of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, at the UN Headquarters in New York. As Senior Co-Chair of the Steering Group, the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, chaired the meeting and provided opening remarks, noting the value of Every Woman Every Child in an evolving sustainable development era.
The meeting served as an opportunity for members of the Steering Group to hear from Secretary-General Guterres his vision for Every Woman Every Child. Through the discussion, the members highlighted targeted opportunities to advance implementation of the EWEC Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, including at regional and country-level to support government-led priorities.
H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and Co-Chair of the High-Level Steering Group, together with H.E. Mr. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of the republic of Tanzania and Alternate Co-Chair of the High-Level Steering Group, co-chaired the meeting and facilitated the discussion.
