Planned Parenthood Federation of America
PPFA has expanded its commitment to young people, in the U.S. and around the world, over the course of this commitment. We have sustained and expanded our youth leadership programs, including annually sponsoring global youth advocacy fellows in the United States to attend United Nations and other international meetings and design global health campaigns in their home communities; and global youth ambassadors to travel to and work with Planned Parenthood Global’s country programs. We regularly reach Planned Parenthood supporters across the United States with up to date and actionable information on U.S. global health policy. In addition, we have achieved our goal of expanding our Youth Peer Provider model, trained over 1,500 young Americans with advocacy and communications skills, and have trained colleague organizations in our models. All of this work is against the backdrop of serving over 1 million clients annually through Planned Parenthood Global’s program, the majority of which are under the age of 25; and growing Planned Parenthood’s supporter base in the U.S. by over 2 million supporters since 2016.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) will build on previous commitments to achieve the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health and rights for adolescent, youth, and women. In support of the Global Strategy (2016-2030), PPFA commits USD $12,000,000 over the next two years to: (1) Support six new partners in Africa and three new partners in Latin America to launch Youth Peer Provider models; (2) Nominate and sponsor global youth advocacy fellows in the United States to attend United Nations and other international meetings and design global health campaigns in their home communities; and global youth ambassadors to travel to and work with Planned Parenthood Global’s country programs; (3) host sub-regional youth organizing training institutes across the United States and one national youth organizing conference to reach 1,500 young Americans with communications and advocacy skills; (4) train at least four local or international colleague institutions in model implementation and print and disseminate a trainers manual to enable other organizations working with young people to implement the model, and translate this manual in Spanish; and (5) conduct digital outreach to bring real-time global health policy information to young people across the United States through Planned Parenthood websites and social media platforms, which receive more than four million visits each month.
PPFA is also a commitment maker to FP2020 in support of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (2016-2030). More information on their FP2020 commitment can be found here.
2012—London Family Planning Summit
Planned Parenthood Federation of America commits to reaching 2 million more women in the United States with reproductive health care, including life-saving preventative screenings and family planning counseling and services. Planned Parenthood will work with its nearly 80 affiliates across the U.S. to expand reproductive health services to areas and communities currently lacking access.
Additionally, through the organization’s international arm, Planned Parenthood Global, it commits to supporting its in-country partners in Africa and Latin America to reach 2 million people by 2015 with sexual and reproductive health information, supplies and services, emphasizing family planning. Planned Parenthood Global will continue to invest in the long-term autonomy and sustainability of local organizations implementing a human rights-based approach to delivering the highest quality reproductive health care. It will support innovative pilot projects to improve quality of care overall and bridge barriers for those most in need of information and services, yet who have the least access to them. Planned Parenthood Global will also expand projects focusing on young people, especially using social media, to reach an additional half a million adolescents with information and access to services when they need them.
Planned Parenthood Federation of American (PPFA) commits to supporting our in-country partners in Africa and Latin America to reach 2 million people with sexual and reproductive health information, supplies and services, especially family planning, by 2015. Through our partnerships, PPFA helps local groups cultivate capacities necessary for institutional sustainability, including the flexibility to act amidst emerging reproductive health problems, technologies and policies. Recognizing that the largest generation the world has ever seen is entering their reproductive years, we will expand projects focusing on young people, especially using social media, to reach an additional half a million adolescents with information and access to services when the need them. Our goal is to help create the healthiest generation ever.
