MMG and UNICEF are working to address the problem of life-threatening micronutrient deficiencies in children in Laos through a two-pronged approach over the course of three years. The first objective is to design, develop, and implement a sustainable, effective delivery model for multiple micronutrient (via sachets) in-home fortification for young children. The second objective is to eliminate iodine deficiency with the help of the Lao Government by improving the quality and sustainability of the salt iodization process. Together with a supporting village nutrition education program, these two strategic interventions will make a strong contribution toward addressing childhood mortality in Laos and accelerate progress toward achieving Millennium Development Goals 1 and 4.
