World Diabetes Day

Theme: Women and Diabetes

Diabetes burdens 422 million adults and 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.

World Diabetes Day is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign with a global audience of over 1 billion people in over 160 countries.  This Day aims to keep diabetes firmly in the political and public spotlight as well as draw attention to important issues to the diabetes world.  The theme will promote the importance of affordable and equitable access for all women living with or at risk for diabetes to medicines, technologies and education. This year, World Diabetes Day hopes to fight gender roles and power dynamics that affect women when it comes to diabetes prevention, treatment and care, especially in developing countries.
