Launch of The Lancet ECD Series in Mexico
9 February 2017 | Mexico City, Mexico
An event to launch of The Lancet Series on Early Childhood Development will take place at 8 a.m. CST on 9 February in Mexico City, Mexico—in line with the previous regional launch in Chile last December 2016. This is a historic moment for Mexico as an opportunity to implement the series’ findings into national public policy being developed in order to advance the 10.5 million girls and boys ages 0 – 5 years living in the country.
This Lancet Series is particularly relevant for the international health community following the inclusion of ECD as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Series considers new scientific evidence for interventions, building on the findings and recommendations of previous Lancet Series on child development (2007, 2011), and proposes pathways for implementation of early childhood development at scale. The Series emphasizes “nurturing care”, especially of children below three years of age, and multi-sectoral interventions starting with health which can have wide reach to families and young children through health and nutrition.
