EWEC LAC High-level Event

A high-level meeting is being hosted in Santiago next week by President Michele Bachelet, of Chile, to formally present the new coordinating mechanism for the EWEC Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean. The new mechanism is made up of seven organizations—IDB, World Bank, PAHO / WHO, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNFPA and USAID—united under the new name Every Woman Every Child Latin America and Caribbean.

The announcement follows a series of sub-regional technical meetings and consultations with LAC Governments to facilitate the adaptation and implementation of the EWEC Global Strategy to the region and leverages the work done by A Promise Renewed for the Americas, which has transitioned to become the regional interagency coordination mechanism for the EWEC Global Strategy.

The event in Chile will feature high-level government officials, regional UN agencies and non-governmental organizations leads, experts from different sectors, countries and academia. It aims to foster commitment by Latin American and Caribbean governments to develop and implement public policies to reduce inequalities and inequities in order to promote health and sustainable development, benefiting all women, children and adolescents in the region.

The High-level event will also encourage knowledge sharing and sensitize donors, investors and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to the development of innovations and to the successful implementation of the EWEC Global Strategy in the region.
