2017 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development Follow-up (FFD Forum)

The annual Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development follow-up (FfD Forum) addresses the follow-up and review of financing for development (FFD) outcomes and the means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The 2017 session will convene from 22-25 May 2017, and a tentative programme is available. The Forum is expected to place a major focus on reviewing and promoting the implementation of FfD outcomes, and on all the Means of Implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The Forum will include an interactive dialogue with a focus on fostering policy coherence in the implementation of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) and other topics, such as for example, inequalities. It will begin with the Ministerial segment, comprising the Special High-level Meeting with the Bretton Woods institutions, WTO and UNCTAD, the general debate and Ministerial roundtables, on 23 May, during which UN Member States and other stakeholders can share steps taken towards implementation of commitments contained in the AAAA and other FfD outcomes.

On 24-25 May the Forum will convene an expert segment to review the implementation of the AAAA. The expert segment will include a panel discussion on the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) report; a stakeholder dialogue; an update on the progress made in fora mandated by the AAAA; and key voluntary initiatives launched at the Third International Conference on FFD. It will also include thematic round tables and expert discussions. The thematic round tables will discuss: (i) progress and gaps in the implementation of financing for development outcomes; (ii) policy recommendations for corrective actions; as well as (iii) new challenges and emerging issues. The expert discussions will be organized on “promoting international cooperation to combat illicit financial flows in order to foster sustainable development” and “the specific challenges to finance sustainable development for countries in special situations”.

The ECOSOC President is expected to appoint two co-facilitators to prepare the draft of intergovernmental conclusions and recommendations of the Forum.
