13th International Inter-Ministerial Conference of PPD

Partners in Population and Development (PPD) will host its 13th International Inter-Ministerial Conference with the Government of Senegal. The conference “Priority Population and Development Challenges in the context of SDGs” will take place from 28 to 29 November 2016 in Dakar, Senegal, to promote south-south collaboration to address challenges in the areas of reproductive health, population and development in the global south.

Participants include ministers of Health and Finance, high-level officials, parliamentarians, UN representatives, development partners, civil society organizations, academia and research institutions, as well as global and regional experts in reproductive health, population and development, youth and adolescent leaders.

Deliberations at the conference will lead to a Declaration with key commitments and recommendations towards implementation of priority interventions to help implement the Sustainable Development Goals. The Declaration will be endorsed and adopted by the 26 PPD member countries, development partners, civil society and other conference participants.

PPD is an inter-governmental organization formed during the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in 1994 to promote south-south cooperation in the area of reproductive health, population and development. PPD is chaired by H.E. Dr. Li Bin, Honorable Minister, National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), Government of the People’s Republic of China. H.E Mr. Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, is the Vice-Chair.

PPD’s members comprise 26 low- and middle-income countries, including: Bangladesh, Benin, China, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Mali, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen and Zimbabwe.
